Back to the Future is one of the most beloved film franchises in history, particularly if you grew up in the 1980s. It’s still a big part of pop culture today, as social media will explode with references to the film when key dates predicting the future (as in, happening right now) come up. Unfortunately, the Cubs did not win the World Series in 2015 as predicted, but it sure gave Chicago fans some hope in the postseason.
There are a number of iconic items in the movie series: the DeLorean car and the hover board are two of the most notable. The car’s retro popularity surely stems from the movie more than anything else, and any engineer who posts a video of a makeshift hover board is sure to go viral.
One more item is a huge part of Back to the Future canon, and unlike the expensive DeLorean or the improbable hover board, it’s easy and affordable to obtain: the Flux Capacitor. This was the device that powered Doc Brown’s DeLorean into time travel once it reached 88mph. Some dedicated designers made a very accurate replica you can put into your car, and it runs about $25-$30. It’s not just awesome aesthetics either: it can charge two USB devices, which makes it perfect for charging your phone or tablet while you drive. It’s certainly a great stocking stuffer when Christmas comes along, but a great gift year round for any friends or family that are big fans of the movie.
